| Through volunteers and the generosity of our donors, Para Los Niños is able to provide assistance to many of the state run children's homes in the department of La Paz. The homes are run by the Bolivian social services (SEDEGES) who provide the basic necessities and pay the salaries of the staff. Para los Niños offers support in health needs, basic maintenance and educational needs such as materials, etc. We also work on projects for the general improvement of the homes and the lives of those that live there. The Hogar Virgen de Fatima. PLN aims to help the staff in the hogar (the children’s home) to look after the children's interest in areas of health, education, social and emotional development. PLN provides support with medication, school materials and other. Project Needs Volunteers support the home by giving their time to help care for the babies and children, organise creative activities and read with the children. The Hogar Jose Soria. PLN carried out a project with the Japanese Embassy to build a new building for the children to sleep in as the old building was run down. The new building has four floors. The boys sleep in two dormitories on one floor and the girls are in two dormitories on the floor below. The ground floor is used for homework and other activities and the top floor is the laundry area. PLN has also supported other maintenance work and general costs in the home. Project Needs Volunteers are placed in the Amigos del Hogar art programme founded by Diane Bellomy. The Hogar Los Andes. PLN has supported the home in various areas such as general costs of bread, nappies, milk powder, etc. Thanks to the Loki & Wild Rover fund we have been able to build a laundry area and are currently building a wall and gate to protect the home. Project Needs Volunteers help care for and entertain the children, organising games, creative activities, walks, etc. Centro de Terapia - Mujeres. The volunteer group employs a knitting teacher (including crocheting and handbag making) and a hairdressing teacher to help prepare them for when they leave and need to earn a living. The home is also given support with medication, social work needs, etc. You can support the work of the volunteer group through PLN. Project Needs Volunteers teach English, art, and computing in the school holidays. Centro de Terapia Varones, PLN has helped the home refurbish their kitchen and sports area. We also currently support the home providing a monthly kitty to help with the costs the social worker incurrs for each case. The boys really enjoy receiving Volunteers to play sport with or to learn arts & crafts, theatre, etc Projects Needs Kallutaca - Up in Kallutaca PLN volunteers have raised money to help build a fence, fix the greenhouse tents for the vegetables to grow, bought new animals, etc. However the home does not rely only on SEDEGES or the volunteers as they sell their vegetables and animals for the homes kitty. They do however embrace all visitors joyfully and guide them around Kallutaca without fear. Project Needs Volunteers have enjoyed helping the kids with the farm and also organising recreational activities for the afternoons. The IDAI is generally well provided for and does not require much material support. However thanks to ex volunteers Lieke and Chris we have just funded the painting of the profound area and the hallways of the home. We hope to be able to paint the dormitories aswell. The home is understaffed and the carers love to recieve volunteers to help them care for, feed and entertain the children and adults at the home. Project Needs |
